New to HH forum...also new to horses...my daughters are having a jolly good attempt at saddling (pun intended) me with the debt that many small nations would be proud of. Still, it's better that they get into horses rather than anything else & it's an investment in their lives.
Joking aside, I wish I'd discovered horses many years ago, I feel like I've found my home

Hi 👋

Are you Mum or Dad or Prefernottosay? We have a few parents on the forum who discovered a love of horses through their children.

I'm Dad although Mum is equally invested in the venture.
Oldest daughter is a very talented rider & in 18 months of regular lessons has gone from total beginner to being offered rides on some serious competition horses..dressage.
My family, historically (great grand parents), were well known breeders & I think the horse thing is something we have innately. It really is quite strange looking at a horse & just knowing somewhere inside you know what you're looking at.
We were living in London & moved out a couple of years ago for various reasons & now have a place with a few lively acres.

Welcome, looking forward to hearing more about your horses.

I thought you might be Dad from the way you wrote. One of the dads who joined about 10 years ago is now big into competing himself.

It's just in the blood, isn't it?
It sure is in the blood. Really, really spooky sometimes...quite visceral & hard to explain.
I'm too old to start competing but my long term desire is to breed horses. I know it's mad but I cannot deny it. There's a huge amount to learn but I'm blessed in that I've made some good friends who are very knowledgeable & encouraging. Plus we have some lovely fields too🙂

We have foal watch threads every year PV, we love a nice foal. It's really interesting how people with no experience of horses can accidentally be exposed to them and be instantly hooked. The gang doing the tarmac on our yard years ago had a young lad who was just couldn't help himself starting at the horses every time they were in the stables. He had it, clearly, in spite of never having been involved with them in any way.

Your daughter sounds as if she is quite a special rider. She clearly has the "feel" needed.

My sister and I inherited the horse gene from our great grandfather. He worked with horses all his life and sounded as though he might have been regarded as a bit of a horse whisperer. I was horse mad from tiny and it is quite literally 'in the blood'. So glad you have found it while you still have the time ahead of you to enjoy it.
