Hello everyone!

I'm a new rider starting at the grand old age of 33 and excited to be joining the forum!

I actually first rode as a child but only a few lessons as my friend had a terrible accident and my mother wouldn't let me near a horse again. Now feel adult enough to get back on the saddle after years of admiring from a distance.

I've had about two months worth of weekly lessons and I've learned so much on the forum already! Hoping to make some horsey friends around Hampshire and one day buy my own horse and maybe even do some dressage.

Hope you've all had a wonderful weekend!

Welcome to the forum, I got my own horse at 43! I don't do anything other than hack mine but it's been like a dream come true to have something so amazing finally in my life. Good luck to you, i'm sure you will be getting your own horse far younger than i was :)

Thanks for your encouragement Shady! How long had you been riding before you got your horse? The equestrian world is so full of young riders so its great to see people over 25 doing some things for the first time! It's sad I already have my eyes on a couple horses but thought I'd better learn how to take care of one first!

I had sporadic lessons as a child( too poor) grabbed rides, trekking where i could over the years, had some very intensive lessons and spent as much time as possible with my SIL in my mid 20's, then nothing for years as i had a back problem and didn't think i could ride again.
Moved to France when i was 38, got involved with rescues and SIL moved here so helped her with her horses, then rode in a treeless saddle and realised there was hope for me as my back was happy so i started riding a bit again where i could and then just decided i had waited long enough at 42 and what i didn't know i could learn so i found the best horse i could and he has looked after me from the moment i got him, and i him . I am a very basic rider but i'm gentle and know my horse very well, we have been happy together for 7 years despite my lack of advanced skills!
You do not have to be the best rider to be a good horse owner :)
Keep going as you are and maybe think of loaning before you buy? xx

Wow looks like you've had an awesome adventure! This may be a silly question but what does SIL stand for?
I've looked into loaning and sharing but first just going to hang around where I'm learning to ride and volunteer as well to learn as much as I can!
Sounds like you and your horse are very happy together!:D

Welcome from me too. I've just got my first horse in my mid-40s. Am loving it. I got back into horses through my local RDA, started having lessons again and thought if I didn't take the plunge now I never would. Best. Decision. Ever. :D

Of course, feel so silly haha! Thank you

Lol, don't ever feel silly, when i first came on here i had to look up SIL, MIL,BIL, OP to name but a few and i couldn't understand why all horses were pony's , to me, pony =14.2 below, horses 14.2 above but everybody had a pony and i was really confused and what were Neds and why were ' pony's ' referred to as people and why did my horse make fart sounds from god knew where when he trotted or played rough and who knew that it came from his sheath( and yes i remember looking that word up once too). So many , many things and i was afraid to ask stuff at first or get too involved but then i thought fekk it and as you can see i am still here.:D

He's a 12 yo 15.1hh cob, let go by the RDA as he didn't work out and mine on loan. I am hoping to turn him into a dressage cob and me into a dressage rider. The latter might take longer! :D The more I ride him the more I can't believe how lucky I am.

Welcome!!! I started at 31 (last year!) after doing a bit of pony club and the sporadic trail ride when I was a younger. I agree with above. just enjoy it.....I sometimes forget that and get caught up in doing everything right lol!

haha thanks good to know I thought they were common abbreviations I should be aware of! Still not sure what OP is... I'm going to have to get used to being the silly one and asking what everything is and or does!

So cute!!!! great choice! I'm thinking of getting into dressage only because I cant afford to ever really get injured as I'm a dentist and jumping seems too risky for me. Plus it just looks so classy!

Thanks will definitely work on the enjoyment side! I have hour lessons and feels like they're over in a blink! Half the time i'm just trying to keep my heels down and not fall of when trotting but will try to relax a bit more!

OP is original post or original poster depending on how it's used. The ones that really confused me to start with were AIBU and YABU which sneaked over here from Mumsnet (I think). AIBU is 'am I being unreasonable?' and YABU is 'you are being unreasonable'. I have also seen YANBU which I thought must be 'you are not being unreasonable'. :D
