Hi!

Some of you 'know' me from other forums, but I thought I would introduce myself properly on here. I am based near Oxford, and have a small band of broodmares. I have had two foals this year, but both were sold within a couple of weeks (days in one case) of birth.

I've got seven mares in foal for 2008, a graded BWBS (TB) in foal to Sambertino, a SWB and a coloured in foal to Stravinsky, another coloured in foal to First Way, a Trak to Utah van Erpekom, a spotted mare to Hannibal, and another Trak to a PBA.

Fingers crossed they all arrive safely!

Welcome! I don't know you but I live in Oxford so we're practically neighbours!

I would love to see pics of your mares if you could post some - sounds like you have a great collection there!

Blimey - I shall try and post some! First pic should be Zarah - assuming I have managed to make the images work! Z came from Opie, actually. Second pic is Phoebe, who is a TB mare by Criminal Law. Will try for more when I can find some nice ones!

Zarah is in foal to a young Fürst Heinrich stallion called First Way, and Phoebe is in foal to Sambertino.

Hi Ashbank, glad you've joined us too! Zarah is looking lovely, really looking forwards to seeing her baby next year! and the others too of course.

Wow! What stunning, beautiful mares!

You are so lucky - Opie's mares have a huge fan club on here: we all want one!

Can I be nosey and ask which PBA stallion you used?

Of course you can. I have used a horse called Roundhill's Blue Moon. The cunning reason behind this is that I have his full sister, so I am using this breeding as a 'test cross' to see what she might throw when she is older, as I was planning on putting her to the sire of the mare who is in foal to Blue Moon. Well, and that he is a smart young horse with both parents and two full siblings who are champions.

However, having just nosied on the stud website where your horse stands, then he could also be a candidate for my little filly! She is a cremello, so you see where I am heading..

Thanks ashbank!

Just checked out Roundhills Blue Moon on allbreeds - goes back to Mikeno and General Grant in his Arab lines - v nice! I like the sound of your cunning test-breeding experiment!

And I like the sound of your Cremello filly!

My boy had two super Cremello PBA mares this year, but one (a multi-champion) has unfortunately reabsorbed (they've tried again - fingers crossed). The other is an equally lovely Sameon mare. So there will be at least one, maybe two, Palomino babies by him in 2008. And he's got two or three more Cremello mares booked for next season...

I've been told that really good Cremellos are very hard to find - so if you have a nice one you are very lucky indeed!

What height will your filly make, do you think? How old is she?

Sorry - do tell me if I'm being too nosey!

Nose away, it's quite alright! She is only a yearling (June 06) so has a way to go until she is old enough for breeding. I am dithering about selling her at the moment for this reason, and because I am worried about having enough room for the winter. If she stays with me, she will be presented for grading as a three year old, and then probably put in foal that year - if she is mature enough. She will mature at around 15.2-3hh.

This picture was taken three weeks ago.

I hadnt seen that photo of Zarah before, she's looking very well

Thanks! She has matured a lot over the summer, and looks very well - Also matured in her head a bit too, and has stopped walking through my post and rail!

Thanks for the welcomes - Here's a picture of another of my mares. This silly horse managed to upset her fieldmate before the weekend and has damaged her leg though. 18 staples later, it's looking more normal, but very swollen.

Wow! The filly is stunning! That's got to be one of the most elegant Cremellos I've ever seen.

She looks quite mature for her age, so I would think she'd be ready to breed at 3, but I'm no expert.

Please don't sell her! Good Cremellos are like gold dust, and she would surely produce the most beautiful Palominos.

(Your accident-prone black mare is lovely too!)

Hi Ashbank, welcome to the forum. I see you know a few peeps already - that's always good eh

You have some really lovely horses - hope the black/brown mare heals well!!

Thank you both for your comments - I think the Gribaldi mare is beautiful, but I am slightly biased, I admit. I have seen some by him with great big fugly heads, so am pleased I have a pretty one! The Cremello will be lovely when she is grown up - she was just born the 'wrong' colour for her breeder, which suits me fine!

Oh v v nice, I am a love your horses & you are not too far, so if they happen to go missing..............
Welcome, & feel free to keep putting up photo's of your gorgeous girls. The is another post in lounge about horses with the wow factor & yours def hve it, as does the HT, Opies, HG, gosh I could go on, the list is endless.
