Hi everyone. I'm a mid-thirties guy that has lurked here once in a while and it looks like a great place for me to ask questions about English riding. I'm dabbling in it with a couple of mustang ponies that have loftier gaits.

I grew up riding western and competing at a very early age in speed events. I made it onto a college rodeo team in calf roping, but didn't make it pro. (I realize it is banned in England, and that's one reason I'm joining here.) A part of me wasn't comfortable with choking those calves anyway.

Anyway, after a few turns in life, I was looking to ride and compete again. I was dating a woman that rode English in the past. With a little influence from her, I sarted down this road.

I still catch ride at times at small rodeos and team rope (that's easier on the cattle) with my brothers, but when I'm home I ride my ponies in my general purpose English saddle.

Hi, your very welcome, we are always looking for nice guys, as it tends to be a very female oriented sport.
'Of course we are 5 hours ahead of US, so its pretty quiet at this time of day.

Thank you all for the welcome!

English riding appears to be 99% female here in TX. I'm surprised it isn't 50/50 in the UK.

A closer look at statistics might reveal that more women own horses for pleasure than men do, regardless of the discipline or type of riding. Maybe....
In the roping world it's more like 25 males to 1 female roper.
