Hello, I'm 66 years old and have ridden since I was five but not for the last eleven years. I started riding again last year but didn't much like going to a riding school. It didn't inspire me. This spring I found a lovely horse to share and the horse bug has properly bitten again. I'm older, stiffer, fatter and much less fit, but I'm getting there slowly. In the past I've worked with horses in riding schools, racing stables and a stud. I've also run my own riding school while married to a farmer. I live down in Cornwall where there is beautiful countryside to ride through. The horse I ride has sweet itch so any advice on that will be gratefully received.

Hello Fil, welcome! :D
The best place to ask about Sweet itch would be the Tack room.

OO what are you making?

(I sew very badly but enjoy it!)
I sew a lot (when I have time). Currently I'm making a bag for my grandson who is coming down for halfterm. He's only three so I'm making his but the plan is (as it's a relatively simple bag) that I'm going to teach his big sister to use the sewing machine and she can make her own bag. Fingers crossed. I also make clothes, dolls, finger puppets, nativity sets, toys etc. I really love sewing. Currently I'm making a sundress for the granddaughter (she will be just turned seven) but I rather stupidly have sewn two sides together wrong and I've been putting off unpicking it.

Lovely! :D

With you on the putting off things!

I've got an almost finished pair of trousers sitting here , literally gathering dust. I don't fancy the turn-up hem & can't decide how to finish. They'll make me sneeze when I eventually get round to them!

If this thread is about riding when one is older, it is perfectly possible but one needs to be kind to oneself as well as to the horse.

I cancelled my ride today as am totally exhausted after standing around at our VE day street tea party yesterday. Possibly also slightly hung over from the fizz as no actual tea urn in sight. If the sun were shining and the weather warmer, I am sure I woud be out there on the horse.

I don't like being asked to turn things up or let them down or mend them. I am a definite sewer and not a mender! Not riding till this afternoon today as my friend who I ride with has to work. But it's not too hot down here in Cornwall.

Can you see the Club house now?

Hi and welcome 😃

I live in the Midlands/Warks border with my partner and dog and have a retired gelding. Currently looking for a new horse to buy.
