Hello! I came across this site while trying to see if I could find out anything about the stables where I learnt to ride and formed such a close bond with a grumpy little pony, Platres, who eventually trusted me & would do anything for me. I lived in Cyprus in the early 1970's and my parents finally let me have weekly riding lessons. It was at White Arches near Famagusta & my friends & I used to spend long, hot, happy days there. When war broke out in 1974, we had to leave suddenly & I was haunted for years not knowing what had happened to all the horses & ponies there. I found a post here from someone who mentioned these stables & I would love to hear her memories, but I can't see it now; can anyone help?

Welcome Pegasus! Sorry I can’t help, but I was 19 and living in Thessaloniki when Turkey invaded Cyprus. Will never forget Greek fighter jets roaring over the city that morning and wondering what the hell was going on…
Good luck with your search ?

Welcome, I lived a few miles from Famagusta in the early 80’s. Wonderful memories of long hot days, riding on the Whadi, swimming ponies in the sea, picking oranges or being given water melons by the farmers and sharing it with your pony as you rode. They were so sticky both pony and human got hosed down at the end of the ride ?

I have never heard of the riding school before but there is a FB page for the Famagusta Saddle Club which had members back in the 60’s and 70’s who might know of White Arches and the pony you are asking about.
