Hi everybody, I am new forum user just wanted to say how much I have enjoyed reading some of your doggy posts. I lost my lovely old black lab last week and reading your posts have really helped. My house is very empty even though I have 3 kids and a husband at home.
I just wondered if any of you think this advert is too good to be true. It is for a golden cocker spaniel bitch 7months old, free to good home as owner is moving out the country. I would appreciate your thoughts on this

Hi there, I would question the reasons given (there seems to be mass migrations sweeping the country if Gumtree is anything to go by) she may be too much for them or they have just got bored, or it may be true - but a lot of dogs are not selling, even really well bred ones, in this financial climate.

If it is what you are looking for and you are able to cope with normal issues like lots of energy, excitement, lack of house training etc (just being cautious), which may be too much bother for some people hence possibly them giving her away, then take their hand off.

I'd be weary, alot of freebies flying around on gumtree and you've gotta ask why.
Having said that, I found my mutt online... initially he just needed a home while the owners organised their life abroad before they took him with them... but I ended up with him!
so you could get lucky :)

Welcome tubby, Im sorry to hear about your dog.

I would say ask outright whether they are actually leaving the country or whether in fact they are having problems with the dog. Be nice, ask them to be honest as you may well be able to deal with a dog who has maybe become a bit too much for them. Cockers are brilliant - Im biased - but can be nightmare in the wrong home. You can but try but if this isnt the right one for you dont give up.

If you ever feel the need for a virtual 'wocker' cuddle - Ruby would love to oblige.

Thanks everyone for your replies . I think I will phone with a list of questions.
I dont mind if the dog needs a bit of work. Jasper was the most destructive puppy ever eating everything from a brand new carpet to the gearstick on my car. He turned out to be the best dog ever:D

If they mention shipping fees it's a con. Gumtree is very dodgy, as are a lot of these sites, and a seven month old free spaniel puppy, although possible could be a lead on.

Our mutt came via Preloved, but at a price that reflected her age, breeding etc. Given some of her issues though, maybe she should have been a freebie!
