Hi :) Been a lurker here for aaaages, but not actually signed up!! Finally worked up the courage to show my face :p

I've had a lot of bad luck with my horses' health in the last two years (don't ask, HORRIBLE time :( :( ) resulting in me, at this moment in time, being one horse down, having a giant (albeit adorable) cripple who is only fit for standing in a field and eating and sleeping, and a pony that I have seriously outgrown.

So I have been saving my pennies, and am now setting out to find myself that perfect horse. I have, as of yet, had two failed vettings, have arrived at yards after a long drive only to find ponies that are - several inches smaller than stated in the advert, - not really broken to ride, - it turns out the owner calls everything 'he', even if it's a mare, and best of all... - 'oh, you can't ride him at the moment, he's recovering from a kissing spines operation. Did I not mention that on the phone?'

So it is with some trepidation that I have agreed to look at a horse next saturday, belonging to a friend of a friend, who only vaguely knows how old and tall it is, and hasn't got any pictures of it. This is where the hunch (as in good feeling!!) comes into it. I have a seriously strong positive feeling about this horse! I'm not usually into that sort of thing, but this I feel I can't ignore...

So have you ever had a sort of 'feeling' about a horse when looking to buy, either good or bad, and did it turn out to be correct?

Sorry for the REAALLLLY long post! D:

You have nothing to lose by going to look at it even if your 'hunch' is wrong. Why do people place such misleading ads /pictures - it is so frustrating. Had similar experiences when we were looking- such a waste of everyones time. I think you just 'know' when you have found the right one. Good luck and let us know how you get on. :)

hiya. my friend really loved this horse advertised, she had such a strong feeling that she didnt even go and ride it her yard owner did. she had it for 1 week and got chucked off her, they were both nervous wrecks. i rode the horse and the yard owner did. she seemed fine at tthe time a little stiff through her back and didnt like to have proper contact. it turns out after a few months of her riding her that she chucked my friend off a few times and had to be taken to hospital... to cut a long story short she has been on box rest for 5months and keeps having a sarcriolliac joint problem.
hope you do find the perfect horse for you. :)

YES, my 3YO colt which I bought last year. Seen him advertised on adhorse and knew he was 'the one' I'd been looking for before i had even viewed him. Took about 5/6 hour round trip to go and see him and he was exactly what I was after. Picked him up a week later (which seemed like a life time!) and he'll be with me for life now :D

Good luck and I hope this horse is 'the one' you've been searching for!!

Oooooh. Not sure I would ever buy a horse on sight alone.Would definitely want to try it more than once in different situations etc and have a vetting. No matter how strong any 'feeling' was I think you need to try the horse for yourself. Sorry she's had such a bad experience though.

Me too! I am sick of searching! This horse isn't really what I was looking for (he will be a seriously big project, whereas I was at first hoping for something to get out and compete straight away on) but the more I think about it, the more a project which I can put my own stamp on sounds appealing...

Horse is not technically for sale, but rather sitting in a field being wasted, and this friend of a friend heard I was looking, and said if I paid a fair price I was welcome to him :p
