I've been riding for many years and can't imagine giving up. Very recently I have had to start using supplemental oxygen for all physical activity. Are there any oxygen using riders out there? Does anyone know where to get a suitably safe saddle bag/pannier to carry a small oxygen cylinder, L.390mm x D.085mm weight 1.75kg (full).

I can't help with your question, but if at some point you do have to stop riding do consider taking up driving as an alternative - it can be equally exciting and challenging and can easily accommodate an oxygen cylinder.

Only a thought but I know when we have skied at altitude local stores sell personal oxygen . From memory quite small !

Oxygenplus.com is worth a look, v small, American but looks as if would go in pocket !

That would be brilliant but as I use 4lpm a pocket size container would not allow for much riding. However, for a dressage test it's an idea. Thanks for web address meesha. Will pursue that line.

Thanks for your suggestion SuperH. A custom saddlebag to fit my saddle or finding one I could adapt would probably be the best option as carrying even a small cylinder on my back would not be deemed safe. I do though have a back pack for working around the yard.

I agree that a saddle bag would be better, as falling on a large solid object like that would hurt! If you are schooling it might be best to have a pommel bag rather than cantle bags, as I feel the bang around at the back a bit and distract the horse. There are a few bottle carrier type pommel bags that might work. Ziclo, sungpax, stowaway etc :) A lot of them are american, so might need to ship them in.

Thank you neddy man. The cylinders only last 1hr 15mins so I have let the Endurance go. Driving is something suggested that is a possibility. I am pretty set on finding a way to continue schooling, hacking and perhaps competing if rules allow.

Mmmm, Yes I do need to consider the weight and balance once attached. 39 cm long and 8.5 cm across. I wouldn't want it bumping the horse's back. Love your dark horses alainax.

sorry i meant for you to look at endurance sights for a saddle bag , as long distance riders sometimes carry water to drink, not as a sport to compete in.

I'm sure you could get a saddler to make you a custom bag that strapped across and attached both sides, possibly with padding to keep it anchored and still on the horses back or withers - like a treeless saddle idea - if you think the weight needs to be balanced centrally.

Personally I would look at velcro attachment to my back, with a strap attached to a ring at the back of the saddle so that the cylinder is pulled free if I fall (as long as you will survive being without it for a few minutes!).

Can I say what an inspiration you are, I've not ridden much the last week because of a bit of dental work. I feel ashamed compared to your determination.
