Hello everyone, as I have just posted my first reply I thought I'd better introduce myself, as it'd be rude not to!
Have been reading all the posts for awhile now and though it was about time i joined in.
I have 3 horses, 2 thoroughbreds and a warmblood as follows:
Jock is TB and 20 years old, retired him last year due to navicular, before I got him when he was 14 he was a 4 mile chaser, has won the Punchestown Gold Cup and the Sandown Gold Cup, racing name is Noyan for any racing nuts out there. He's my boy, and he got me through a very difficult time in my life, he also put a spring in the step of my old TB mare who I sadly had to say goodbye to last October at the grand old age of 32 I'd had her since she was 5, but he made the last 5 years of her life very special.
Dexter is my VERY naughty Warmblood, and my show horse, he is now 14 and will be going into veterans next year, which I can't quite believe. At the moment we do riding horse classes, unfortunately HOYS still eludes us, but maybe veterans and Olympia who knows! anyway he's the attention seeker will throw things at you if ignored, headcollar, rugs, grooming kit, you name it he'll throw it, chucked a headcollar at the vet just cause she was seeing to one of my others and not him
He is a complete bug a lugs and a real softie, can be a git to ride though, if he doesn't want to work he'll think up every excuse he can and because he is a tad on the thick side has not worked out yet that the more he plays up the longer he stays out until he behaves!
Lou Lou is my other TB, I got her last year as a 4 year old straight out of racing, by chance I was at a yard fitting a saddle for a friend when I happend to notice this poor little mare cowering at the back of a stable, there was just an instant conection with her, I was then told she was to be shot because she was so dangerous, thats it I was in the stable with her, at first she just eyed me up and down, but after awhile she stepped forward and sniffed my hand, thats it I said who owns her I'm taking her home. After much pleading over the next 24 hours it was agreed I could have her (giving her to me was cheaper than PAYING the knacker man were the words used) anothe 24 hours later she was signed over to me. YES she was dangerous when I got her, but only because of her past, she was terrified of humans to the point she would stand up and come at you with her front feet and teeth. A year later she is the sweetest little mare every day she rewards me further, and I glow with pride, the first time she let me put my arms around her and cuddled her I cried. I haven't ridden her yet, I'm taking things slow we have all the time in the world and I know she will tell me when she is ready. Plus the fact she is still growing she was 15hh when I got her she is now 16hh but she is quite bottom high at the moment so thats about 16.2 so hopefully the front will catch up with the back!
Anyway I've really waffled on, so apologies, but I'm sure you'll all understand once you start talking about your horses you can't stop
