I’ve owned my 21 year old new forest 14 years and not really fed any supplements as never had or felt the need to , however due to lack of grass/his age does anyone recommend any supplements that actually work that will perhaps make him feel better or will be good for him? he’s a good doer and puts on weight easily its more to ensure he’s getting the vitamins and minerals he needs for good health and joints?

Hello and welcome. I've got a 22 yo NF that I've owned since he was a yearling. Is there any a noticeable change in your pony, it maybe worth calling the vet out to check him over. I had Benji MOT'd last year for my piece of mind. Yes there are mild arthritic changes in his one knee which I could tell anyway and I also had him tested for cushings. I've taken him off any "sugary" feeds and he now has a handful of molasses free chaff with micronised linseed. He was just over the normal level for the test but as he's not displaying any symptoms lab and vet said no reason to medicate at present. I have just also started feeding him agnus castus.

Is your pony on a green passport? What's his name?

Hello! Thanks for the advice , I regaully have the vet to check him over and he always says he's doing great and looks 10 not 20+ which I'm Obviously chuffed to hear! He lives our 24/7 with access to stable (which he chooses to use when it's hot not cold suprisingly) I think this keeps him supple along with the light hacking :) usually he has more grass so I was looking for something that he may need that he's not currently getting in the grass as he's that much older... What do u mean by green? HIs names hawthorn star on his passport with (forester) next to it which I call him :)

Mine is out 24/7 too and rarely goes in shelter in the winter. Summer he's in it most of the day. The linseed being an oil is good for skin, feet, etc. I have noticed a difference in Benji's coat. He also has access to rock salt lick. He's only lightly hacked, mostly taking my son out on his pony.

With regards to the green passport, is it one issued by the NFPB & CS? I couldn't find him on the stud book on-line.
