Hello I am new to the forums, I have a 12 hh sec A who hates other horses and pony's, He came to me about 2 years ago and loves children even though he is not broken in at the age of 7, why I am sad is I cant find any place to keep him where he is at the moment they are selling up and I cant afford full livery, which is all they do around my way which means as the rescue centres are full and no one would want a pony that has to kept on its own I am running out of options on where to keep him. I am also 23 weeks pregnant so need him to be close, my friends said to put him out as a companion but as he hates animals this is not an option. if anyone out there has any ideas which means I can keep him please let me know I am running out of ideas, I have even been leafleting today around the village that I live for grazing.
Hello and welcome. Really sorry to hear of your predicament, I am not sure of what you can do as he is not broken and he is not keen on other animals/horses.
Given your full predicament, money and pregnancy would you consider selling?
No one would want to buy him only for dog food there are better horses than him with no place to go only a soft touch like me would take him on, have also done the farmers most are sheep and wont have him around them he would spend all day running the meat off em lol.
Is he registered? Have just looked at your pic's he's avery prettyboy, could you not loan him out as an inhand show pony? Are there any reasons why he couldn't be backed? you never know someone might like to take him on as a project for a few years...
I have backed him and ridden him away, he is great at shows and always gets placed. he still gets a bit spooked by the rider and would need someone who is very confident as he buck every now and then when spooked my son has pony rides on him but he is very green, I also have got a cart which I am breaking him in for at the moment. he is good with me but frightened by people he don't know. (he was mistreated that's why I have him). his breeding is cusop.
Just a thought but if you can get him broken to the cart you could contact the British Driving Society and see if they have any suggestions ie someone somewhere who wants a loan pony for driving ..... it could just be that a little bit more regular work would improve his character!!
Second thought, be very brave, get the yellow pages out and ring round local farmers, put notice up in village shops/tack shops asking for a little bit of grazing, etc...... there will be a solution somewhere locally, but you probably have to put a little bit of legwork in to find it!!
He has been ridden away but gives a buck if he sees the rider flapping on him he is still very green and is frighted by strangers, at shows he is great and i have only shown him in hand but he is always placed.
he was mistreated before I got him that's why I own him the previous owners couldn't do anything with him not even catch him, He is a one in million with kids they can cuddle his nose and legs and he careful around them. I have been breaking him into harness at the moment and would let him out on loan as a show pony for a year if I could find the right people. he is reg sec A.
