Hi folks, I don't usually post in here but I wondered if you could share your experiences please?
My 10 1/2 year old lab bitch (not neutered), had a lump under her belly (between her back legs) for the last 2 years which hasn't caused any problems, was checked by the vets periodically and they were never too concerned so we left well alone. Recently the lump has grown, to the point it was banging against her leg when she walked/ran, due to her having rubbish hips I was concerned about the impact on her hips (as was the vet). We operated last Thursday to remove the lump, and since then one of her back legs has swelled up, I have massaged, walked her regularly, she has had diuretics (as well as antibiotics & metacam) which haven't made any difference, her leg has now ulcerated (nowhere near the op site) so she is back into tomorrow for the vet to put it a drain and try to sort this out.
Basically it looks like we have kicked off the hell and all of reactions :( She is bright enough in herself but I feel so rotten for putting her through this when to her there was nothing wrong last week.
Please let me have your stories.

No experience I am afraid but sending loads of vibes. Don't beat yourself up, you did not put her through an op when there was nothing wrong with her, you say the lump had grown so you did the right thing n getting it removed. I hope she is soon on the mend.

No advice but want to send hugs to you and vibes to your doggy. Hope she gets better soon.
I wonder if the lump had something going on with lymph nodes and now its been removed the lymph system isn't working properly- I have seen similar in humans after surgery near lymph drainage sites.

I would say you made the right decision for your dog. The lump was affecting her welfare so you did the right thing trying to help her. My 13yo Cocker has a similar fatty lump under his arm pit which is slowly growing. I will have it removed if it starts to affect his movement. He has had a wart that kept getting caught on things and getting infected on his head as well, I had that removed recently. Was really worried about a 13 yo have general anaesthetic etc but I'm sure it is the right decision for him. Hopefully she will be fine in a couple of weeks time and back to her normal self. Keeping everything crossed. Good luck.

Hi All, thanks for your thoughts and vibes. Sadly the leg continued to ulcerate and breakdown and the only (feasible) option was to have her PTS. Vet agreed with my theory that perhaps the lump had started to grow (hence the recent increase in size) and removing the mass accelerated the reaction in a very aggressive way. Good night God bless my Holly dog xxx

So sorry for your loss.x

Can only liken it to my own experience with one of mine, he had a small lump under his armpit for yrs then suddenly it grew within literally 48hrs to the point he couldn't walk properly, i took him to the vets in the morning and the lump appeared to be growing in front of us, the skin was so so sore and taut. I took him back in the evening and let him got to sleep, he had cried all day long even on extra strong painkillers and the only other option was to remove his leg and at 12/13yr old i wasn't prepared to put him through that.
