hi i finally managed to get tickets to xc(yay!!!) but been trying to work out how to get there,i dont know london at all so no idea about the tubes and how they link up..im coming from the midlands so not a million miles away but the more i look into it the more confused im getting,i have an option of a parking space in ealing,,,but dont know if thats going to be any good as been told its the other end of london!!! so dont know whether im better off getting train or national express coach to somewhere in london..that is maybe more straight forward to get to greenwich park..... im so excited but getting stressed about this journey and how best to get there and back...im fine about travelling anywhere anytime its just london!!!no clue about it..its like another world to me..please any help/ advice would be really appreciated...thank you

It'll be relatively easy, although the public transport to Greenwich will be busy.

If you're coming from the Midlands, then I'm assuming you'll arrive at Euston (with Virgin or London Midland), St Pancras (East Midlands Trains) or possibly Kings Cross (East Coast) if you come by train. Taking the train to London is in my view (and I travel there with work and socialy a lot) always the best and easiest way to get there (especially compared to parking in Ealing which would be a greater hastle as it is completely on the opposite side of London and will be a real pig to cross London).

From any of the stations listed above it will be easy to jump on the Northern Line underground (making sure you take the Bank branch if you go from Euston, but there is only one option from KingsX/St Pancras) and change at Bank onto the DLR (Docklands Light Railway) for a direct train to Lewisham which will be through Greenwich.

Another option is to book a ferry from Blackfriars or London Bridge (again London Bridge would be northern line, bank branch) direct to Greenwich. Seats are selling out, and infact most of the seats TO Greenwich had gone when I went to book the other day, but some are available back from Greenwich to the City. If you go on the 2012 website you can find links to travel there and a link to book ferries (this is cumbersome to find though!).

thank you for replying,i could get train into london fairly easy then really,i just drive when i go to olympia, park there next to it, come out and just drive home again, this seems a completely different ball game...its the connections between lines that i dont get.. do get a travel card with tickets though so should be able to get around ..im coming from birmingham, could do international or new street, will have a look now...

Either way you will end up at Euston, so that is nice and easy for you. Just make sure when you go onto the underground you pick up the Southbound Northern Line VIA Bank. The line splits at Euston for a bit, so you need to make sure you're on the right section. Once you get to Bank underground, just follow the signs to DLR, ALL DLR trains from there go from the same platform, and then just make sure it is a train for Lewisham. The connection there is very easy, so if getting around from platform to platform worries you a little then this will honestly be the easiest route, one change and you'll be there.
