I have a 7yo 16hh ISH who has built up so much over the past 18 months since I bought him that I am struggling to get a GP/jump saddle to fit him that will not impede his huge shoulders. I have managed to find a xw dressage saddle with cut back flaps which was made for an Andalusian stallion (!) and fits him well at the moment (providing he doesn't build up toouch more) but my saddler couldn't find a GP to come close to fitting him and, as I want to jump him, I can't manage with just a dressage saddle!! Advice anyone please? He isn't fat but is a big moving horse with a huge shoulder. Thank you!

i had same problem with the tb x wb I used to have. In the end we found a native pony wh saddle, its 1 of those saddles that seems to fit everything

My old mare has huge shoulders and is v wide! I ended up with an ideal impala for her which Is nicely forward cut but sits off the shoulders well. She had an xw/xxw.

When I got a saddle fitted for my cob with massive shoulders, my saddler said to use a vsd saddle because itt fits around his shoulders but it's still practically the same as a gp saddle so you can do anything in it. Hope this helps:)

Hi I have a 18 hand ID x Hann and my saddler worked with Albion to make him his own saddle as his action is enormous and he is built like a brick out house.x

Try a Black Country saddle. They are made to measure. I have two of them and they are the best saddles I have ever had.

I have a large moving ISH; the only saddles we can get to fit him are Albion these allow his shoulders to move free; currently have K2 GP and K2 Genisis.dressage.. Might be worth a look.

Albions can be tricky as they have pretty long points. I find that unless the scapula is very prominent and there is a dip behind it, that getting the right tree shape and width is actually the most important thing, and that even large shouldered cobs can often take a jumping saddle. Not found a horse yet that I can think of that can't take a GP, though occasionally the seat size has to be smaller than in a straight cut saddle, even if on the very same tree.

Billy is narrow but with quite a big shoulder and ideal saddles fit him pretty well - you could try the ideal impala (jump saddle) which are good :)
