hi all...

today i had a flat and jump lesson the flat was brill she said were both working nicley... jumping in the arena not so good i use to love it (havnt fell off... well not that have nocked my confidence) and for somreason he rushed quite a bit in the arena which un nerves me and he also dodges out at the last min or gets carried away.... but i go in the working hunter ring and ill happliy jump every jump in there and he doesnt rush and doesnt dodge.. although one jump he didnt like n flung himself over it and i fell off on my nose aarrgghhh!! but straight back on and jumped them all again....

can anyone reason why im scared to jump in the arena, but not in the hunter?
thanks!

PS ill jump/canter and gallop on a hack!

xx

Some horses prefere natureal fences to coloured ones,i think yours is more laidback with natureal ones, which makes you more relaxed jumping them, plus coloured jumps are mostly spaced closer together, which will make your horse race for the next one.

I dont know what height you are jumping the coloured fences, may be they are to high for him, hence the rushing/running out, keep them low for the time being, and try and just trot up to them {if he refuses at a trot you should still stay in the saddle} or try adding a trotting pole to slow him down.

thanks for the reply he jumps 1m20 on the lunge easy with room for bigger but we stick to 2ft 9 while im in the saddle. iv not cantered up to the coloured fences in a long while and trotting h stirll rushes even with a pole!

he lifts his head ashtough hes going to jump but them doesnt... PS not bothered about falling doesnt phase me!

not sure what it is maybe its the rushing i dont like?

thanks for the reply
