Hi,
I have a mare that has had various lameness issues over the last 6 months, all sorts of vets investigations and some treatment - upshot is vet and I agreed best way forward was to turn her away for the winter and see how she is in the spring. She is now out with 5 brood mares (and a big rug!). I thought all was going well, but I have asked for her to have haylage now (was previously agreed she'd have ad lib haylage) as she has just started dropping a bit of weight.
I've just had a text from field owner (also runs full livery yard my mare has been at for past year) saying hers don't need hay yet, that my mare is kicking the others (I knew nothing about this) and that she can't be separated long term, (by electric fence), so she doesn't think it's going to work. I've tried to call but she is busy and said she'd call me later.
Now I'm panicking - my horse is lame, the vet thinks it's best to keep her moving, she's losing weight, looks like she can't stay where she is. To make matters worse I've just acepted a job in London, horse is in Bristol, was thinking I could leave her where she is and visit twice a month until I find out if she's sound (she is checked etc every day by brood mare owners).
Does anyone have any suggestions of what I could do with her - either around here or nearer London. Do racing yards/studs have horses out all year (brood mares, youngsters etc) that I might be able to put her our with do you think? Obviously I'd pay etc.
Any suggestions? Sorry it's so long...
