Hello H&H,
I’ve come for help & advice, I hope someone can answer my questions.
I would like to work with horses, a situation where I have live in accommodation and training of some sort – ideally somewhere I could learn to handle and train young-stock, improve my riding, learn about eventing, work towards a qualification, anything really – though not racing.
However I do not have any money is it possible to do anything like this without paying any sort of fees and just have your work cover everything?
I’m 20 years old and have no previous qualifications of horse care, my experience of horses Is basic everyday care and I currently exercise someone’s horse every other day but I can’t ride to any particular high standard. I currently can not drive either.
After looking around I’m worried perhaps I’m edging on the side of too old to get apprenticeships, as looking round everything seems to be school leavers etc, or someone would prefer training someone up who is younger.
Though I feel its now or never and I’m getting depressed not being able to find normal work and really don’t want to spend another year in wasting my life doing nothing.
I wish I had done something with horses when I was younger but it has only been in recent years I have renewed my interest, woken up to the real world of – I need a job/future.
I’ve been looking on yard& grooms but I was wondering if anyone could explain in more detail what is possible / if this thing exists, recommendations, experiences, guidance of a plan of action?
