My horse has had a bit of a cough and a runny nose so I put him on anti b's, he has been on them since monday but this morning all 4 legs are filled from fetlock to knee/hock. Any idea's/advice please. Oh, should mention, it disperses with exercise. Thanks

Filled legs can happen when their immune system is feeling a bit battered, and things arent working as they should!! Does he get turned out? Or are you keeping him in because of cough? Would personally bandage legs overnight, and walk him out when possible to keep things moving. But if is equally in all 4, wouldnt concern me too much, just keep him warma dn keep an eye on his general "feeling" Hope he gets better soon!

Cheers for that Kat, I bandaged him last night, he is out all day, we never keep our horses in, other than at night.

It may just be then, that the anti b's are working and bringing out a virus that he may have got from the Wiegersma's.

We have withdrawn him from Bricky.

I had this exact same problem with my 2yo when she had antibiotics for an infected fly bite. All four legs filled from knee down.
She lives out, and I didn't trust her with bandages or much else.
I gave her probiotics, only a small amount (Protexin) and it cured itself within a day or so. Maybe just an unbalanced system trying to cope?
Hope he gets better soon.

stupid question but are you feeding any high energy feed even things such as museli staypower which are slow release stuff caused my geldings legs to swell like mad, he wasnt lame and upon exercise it just went, now i just be careful how much he gets....
