- need a big kick up the arse to get my butt in gear and stop being a numpty wussy pants

You will be absolutely fine... its good to have a few nerves, but once you are up and riding you'll focus on whether you like beasty enough to part with money...

I know how you feel.

Remind yourself before you get on that they are not your other horse, they won't behave like it.

Once you've ridden around a bit I think you'll be surprised how safe you feel on a horse with a clean slate.

Kick up the arse coming.

But ... don't know if you know the horse you are trying, but if not remember the RULES

1 Get someone else to ride it first.
2 If you think it is too much (you are looking for a confidence giver I guess, not a crazy thing) don't be embarrased into riding if you know its not for you and you don't want to.
3 Have a plan of what you are going to do when onboard. If at all nervous keep to circles/shapes/serpentines/changes of reins to begin with. This gives you something to think about so you dont worry about the horse.

And lastly ... good luck and enjoy.

Every horse is different so a fresh pair eyes and an open mind.

If the owner is riding the horse before you get on board, I'm if the owner gets thrown off...then alarm bells will start ringing in your ears!

Once you can ride, you can ride, anything else is all in your head, so don't think about it too much, going to try a new potential horse should be exciting and you should be looking forward to it, you need to think about the positives and why your going to view the horse, the must be some specific reason why you are going to see this horse.
When you jump on board, really think about what your expecting out of a horse, what you want, how you want this horse to feel and react to the way you ride and how you apply your aids rather than worrying if the horse puts a foot wrong, besides I'd rather a horse put a foot wrong when viewing it rather then when you have shaken hands, paid for it and got the animal home!

You'll be fine, now chill out!

- as for why horse a git - we have looked into everything over the past year with vets/teeth/back/saddle people/physio/feed/prof schooling/rider/bute trial and he is now out having a rest! - bless! with someone else, as he has frazzeled my nerves and pissed off everyone else, not to mention injuring a few

My confidence was pretty low after 6 years of trying to tame the beast.

When I was buying again, the first one I saw fitted the bill and I got round my nerves by not riding her

. My instructor and I saw her being ridden and decided she'd be fine
