Hi all

As you may know/remember I had a fall 2 weeks ago which resulted in my being kicked on the way down full pelt and breaking my shoulder. My horse has had to stay at the training centre where we were having a lesson for a couple of weeks as I have not been able to do anything. I have recently had a scan that showed damage to the tendons/ligaments meaning I may need an operation on the joint

Problem is it is costing me nearly £200 a week to have him on schooling livery where he is and I still have to pay on top of that nearly £40 a week for my livery box so I don't lose it!!!!

My friend who is an instructor/event rider has offered to have him for a few weeks until I am back in the saddle but I am worried about moving him again to another yard and then back home to the livery yard a few weeks later. He is quite an insecure horse and only 5. Is this going to really stress him out?! Does anyone have any experience of keep changing a horse's environment - it will be totally new people as well and noone familiar. Really worried and not sure what to do cause I can't look after him at the moment and simply cannot afford to pay best part of £300 a week for the next month or two

I am sorry to hear about your poor shoulder/arm. I wish you a good speedy recovery.

I would absolutely snap her arm off! That will be a wonderful education for him and sounds like an experienced person in looking after horses too, he will be well ridden and well looked after (for would that be nothing?) but your own box fees. I would not worry too much about him moving house, he'll adapt fast and that will further add to his education in resulting in a more laid back traveller, ready for when you want to take him out and about.

I wouldnt worry about moving him he will learn to adapt.

I regularly take sus to new places and when he is stabled over a weekend at a show or before when he was raced.

He will be fine and it will be a good experience for him

I would do it, moving can be difficult but many are absolutely fine and to me it sounds like the best option for both of you, he gets the attention he needs and you aren't bankrupt.

Definitely move him - he will be fine and in excellent hands by the sounds of it.

And not meaning to be depressing but by the sounds of your shoulder it could be more than a few weeks before you are able to take him back.

I wish you a speedy recovery - its sound terribly painful.

Thank you all so much - so you really don't think that it is too much to ask him to move home two or three times in a month or two? I love him so much and want him home but I can't have him back and not work him and not be able to look after him properly - it's just too cruel especially with the fields closed until Spring

If only he hadn't bleeding caught me with that big boot foot or his!

We have a rising 3 year old that a "friend" brought to my yard just before Christmas (I use the term friend loosely as we had a bit of a tiff and I haven't heard from her since last month). She also has another horse that is his companion.

I think when I asked her how many times she had moved them in the last year she said 7 (she had financial issues and the last 2 places she was at had NO turnout in the winter).

She'll be moving again 1st week in Easter as we;re getting rid of all our liveries as we're moving to a new yard and can't take them with us...that'll make 8 different places for him in about 2 years!

So I'd say your lad should be fine!

Yes, he'll be ab fine, in fact, probably better since he just moved a couple of weeks ago and it didn't kill him, so he'll expect the next move to be fine too! That's training!

i would say he will be fine, as he is only young it will help his education and they soon settle in a new place, my hunter was moved around quite alot as a younster and he is so relaxed in new places as he got used to it.
