Our yard are holding a charity weekend in a few months and we have just started to get it organised.

The Saturday will be an equestrian day - dressage, showing etc - all for charity. We are okay for this bit as it's what we all know!

However, the Sunday is going to be a Family Fun day and Dog show, something we have never done before.

I am in charge of the dog show (as i have show dogs so know the most about it) but am also helping with other bits and bobs.

I was wondering if anyone has any advice or ideas of other things we could do on the Sunday, people we could invite etc.

This is all being held in aid of Breast Cancer UK as our YM is currently undergoing treatment for the disease.

Dog show -
Fastest boneo eater.
Fancy dress.
Waggiest tail.
Dog that looks most like it's owner (mostly men with bulldogs that win this!)
Prettiest eyes.

Dog agility - could be done so that the child has to go through the obstacles and do the jumps etc too...

thanks for the tips but i have got the dog show side of it sorted :D (although might add your fastest bonio class, lol!)

i really need ideas for other activities at the show

Bouncy castle, face painting, tombola, invite caterers and ask for a share of the takings, guess the number of sweets in the jar.

Have you tried asking for any advice/guidance from the charity you're supporting? They may have ideas too.

i believe we have a boucny castle lined up already :D
I have also contacted a face painter :)

We have had the council advisor come and visit and have had alot of info from him - apparently the charity itself isnt being very helpful (which surprises me!)

I have also contacted the local Air Cadets squadron (where i used to volunteer as a civilian instructor) and they are going to come and help out too.

At one of the shows local to us they always have the ferret people there -always a popular attraction and they of ferret races throughout the day. i don't know what size of event it is but how about your traditional races (adults and kids), things like tug of war etc etc. Also, maybe a guess the name of the doll/teddy etc but maybe you could do the guess the age of a pony/donkey? lol

You have to be careful with bouncey castles and stuff like that as it can cost a lot in insurance to have them there sadly but, if you can get them then it's always handy for kids.

oooo - i will contact the 'ferret people'

Someone at work suggested people races too, like egg and spoon etc - didnt think of tug of war though, i'll kepe that in mind.

We have full insurance cover so dont have to worry :D
