Due to the funny smelling Hi-Fi Lite that's about at the moment I have just been advised by the shop to buy the senior instead as it the nearest thing and is about the same.

I was in my lunch break from work and in a hurry so as a quick explanation I have come away with the senior, but now looking on Dengie website it's got a few more differences than I thought - will it be OK?

My horse is 28 and so far not been on any senior feed. He is a good doer and struggles to keep the weight OFF not like some seniors! He's not laminitic but obvioulsy I am aware he cold be a prime candidate due to age and his build.

He is 15hh, cob (cleveland bay x), still in light ridden work (up to an hour a day mainly hacking)

Notice that senior has alfalfa not straw and little bit of molassas rather than sugar. I can't introduce gradually as have no lite left as new bag smelt reeeeally nasty.

He only has half scoop twice a day plus handful of saracen cooling pencils.

Should it be ok to feed him? (am having little panic attack now!!!)

A *big* difference!! I have used Hi-Fi senior for an oldie I was *trying* to put weight on. I don't think you really want it for a good dooer.

If I were you I would swap if for Dengie Good Dooer, which is what I use for my fatty

I thought Hi-Fi senior was good for putting weight on, i used to feed my old mare it to keep her weight up.
I use Hi-Fi light or good dooer for my horses which need their weight kept down.

Defo take the senior back and get the good doer instead. The senior is grass and alfalfa rather than straw and alfalfa, which basically means it will be a lot higher in energy.

Have just spoken to Dengie feedline and they have advised that at the levels I am feeding it won't make any difference at all. (he only has 1/2 scoop twice a day)

I have still decided to take it back. The reason i brought it was because the Hifi Lite is smelling funny - but also had that question answered at the same time and it's ok to feed even though it smells funny as it is the coating from new supplier but they are 'working on it' !!! Hope so cos it smells awful

the only difference is it has a few more ingerdidents to help with weight gain and buy what you said he dont need it so you can either feed a little bit so it dont put the weight on or either change the bag to the goods doer hi fi!
