Help! AV wanted.

Can anybody help? I'm looking to beg borrow steal or preferably buy an AV for my stallion this season.I don't know how much if any AI I'll be asked for, so being a tightwad (through necessity) I'd like to source a secondhand one to keep costs down. If you don't want to buy an AV, you can always try the Crump method for collection...

Otherwise, second hand AVs can be a bit dodgy... Worn, slightly mouldy Missouri bladders, and banged/cracked cases for Colorados/INRAs...

Thanks Andypandy. I found an article about ground collection on the internet. The only thing is- what is best to be used for collection and how do you filter, or do you do that after collection? Any other sources about this would be welcomed.

Should be enough info for you to get started. Manual stimulation collections aren't as clean as AV collections. You could either try to put a filter in-line with your rectal sleeve or whatever you are using to collect, but filtering after collection is OK.

Your other option, to separate the gel fraction is to try to pinch off the collection bag before the gel fraction is ejaculated... but that can be a little difficult to start with

Just make sure you are using an extender with a good antibiotic... Gentamycin or Ticarcillin/Timentin would be suitable, as long as his sperm cells will tolerate exposure to those (which most will).
