I have 3 hens and a cockerel. Two of the hens have bald patches on back which I think is caused by the cockerel doing his stuff!! However yesterday I noticed that both were bald under their wings and one of them had gone fluffy and balding on rear end. They all look healthy, and are laying and none of them are scratching. They are nearly a year old.

Any advice please

Moulting? or could be like you say the cockeral :S
you can get vitamin boosters to mix in there drink if you think they might need it ( aroudn £3 for a powder sachet) or if it is the cockeral you can get a "anti peckign spray" to put on the hens

Another possibility is mites but if its only the hens its not as likely, check the corners and joints of their house and lookfor little bugs lurking around, you can get a spray for this to

NetTex have just bought out a new range of chuckie stuff at very good prices so might be worth looking at that.

Agree its probably mites - check them when they go to roost and you may see little red mites in amongst feathers (the mites only come out at night after hiding cracks during day) . ........or it might be the cockeral!

Forgot to say if Mr cockeral has got the his huge spikes on his legs there woudl probably be cuts/grazes so thats somethign to look out for , might help rule it out.
One of our chucks got a huge gash in her side from the big boy

Mites or lice. Easy to deal with you just need a mite spray for cage birds plus give the coop a really good spray out ( shut all the doors for a few hours while the chickens are outside).

It will be red mites most probably - you will see them on or around wood which is where they like to live till they come out to feed on the chucks. We are really struggling to control them too.

It may just be that you have noticed that they are balder in these areas.... when infact it is quite normal for them to be a touch baldy under the wings, and also round the vent is called the fluff...... maybe because of the fluffy feathering..... If it is not normal then the above suggestions are pretty good to be going on
