I know there is a name for this condition but I cannot remember it!

My horse had a kick on the outside of his cannon bone just below the knee and was lame. X-rays confirm no damage to any bones whatsoever. In the absence of any bone damage and as he was sound before the kick, Vet believes this may be the diagnosis and he is on 3 weeks field rest.

Does anyone have any experience of this and if so how long did this take to heal. He is still in some pain when you touch it and is till a little lame.

ANy experiences appreciated! Thanks.

Periostitis? Some horses get sore shins by the hard ground and concussion; a rest and cold hosing usually helps.

Same as us if you get a nasty knock to your shin and a lump comes up - it's called a periosteal reaction, and I know from experience that the pain can remain for a good few weeks so I'm sure he'll come right very soon!
