HELP - BUYING A NEW HORSE AFTER A BREAK

Really need some help I am looking to buy a new horse. I have had my own horse up until 3 years ago when I gave up due to job commitments and boys. Now after a break getting a stable job and a partner who also likes horses. I am going to but the bullet and buy a new horse.

So do you think £500 a month would be enough to keep a horse on DIY during the winter?

So I am looking to keep my horse in the Reigate area and wondered whether anybody could recommend any good yard. Would need all year round turnout plus a sand school? Would do DIY but would like to occasionally have assitance if I couldn't get to the yard or was running late. Can anybody recommend any yards?

I am looking to buy a 15.2 - 16.2 between 6 and 9 years for around £4000 ideally a gelding. I would like him to be able to do a decent dressage test novice/elementary and happily pop a x country cross around 2.9. Dont mind dealer or private. Please can someone recommend were i look?

plenty of £ as for where to buy ONLY look at newish adverts. you are going to be looking for what everyone wants. There are quite a few on here looking for the same thing. So if the horse is still for sale after a couple of weeks at most it is not what you want either.

I learned this the hard way, travelling 1000's of miles even though I had asked all the right questions on the phone. It actually happened twice 8 years apart. Both times once I decided to only view new ads ...I bought the first horse I saw both advertised less than 12 hours old

Don't agree with that. My sister just sold a horse. First time advertised only one phone call no viewers. 3 weeks later but her back on the same website, same advert, same photo and phone never stopped ringing. First people to see her bought her. Her older advert was still on line just much futher down.....! Why a couple of weeks made a difference I don't know but it did so don't just look at new ads. Would also say that on some sights they can go from top of page to about the 30th on that page in just a day or two.

£500 more than enough and a good budget. I can't recomend any yards in Reigate but I'm sure down that way you'll have loads of choice. Look in local tack shops.
 
£500 is plenty :)

Google tells me Reigate is in Surrey, is that right?! How far are you willing to travel to view horses? And what is your budget?
 
I am not connected with them in any way so I hope this is not taken as advertising - but if you want a solid all rounder take a look at Prestwood Farm just near Gatwick. I have met quite a few people with horses that came from there and seem to be exactly as it said on the tin.

I have also heard Emma at Clip Clop Traders being highly recommended.
