Need help as I'm scratching my head, horse has been lame for two weeks. Had the vet out, not sure what it could be either laminitis or bruising ( but x-rays done and no change) no hard crest but pulse and hear in foot. Washed hoof today and badly bruised , no wonder he is lame. Any ideas what has caused this?

It's not a very clear photo but usually if its bruising you can see in the WL as it hits the ground it is old and possibly indicative of subclinical episodes previously.

Lame on one or both?

Could it be caused by the farrier he was shod a few days before he went lame? Shoes have been removed to check for a abscess

The photo isn't very clear, but that doesn't look like bruising, it's in the wrong place. it looks like its sitting in the white line, which would mean it's bleeding, not bruising. The redness of it also looks like blood. It looks like your farrier pricked him when he shod him, which is why it matches up with the nails. The timing is right, perhaps a bit delayed but maybe they worked into the laminae over a couple of days. He should come right soon but I'd be concerned whether you have the right farrier. He needs to see the photo, or preferably the horse, and give you an explanation of what he thinks is going on.
