My colt just turned 1 in July 07, hes a lovely chap been handled loads since birth and generally well mannered. All of a sudden hes started "Feeling his feet" lunging out to nip, throwing his head up and rearing occasionally. We missed castrating him this year as one of his testis hasnt dropped and dont fancy the vet bill, i'm going to give him over the winter to see if it drops of its own accord, then we'll bite the bullet next year if not. Problem is I want to cure this rearing before it gets out of hand, firstly because hes going to be a big lad secondly because Im three months pregnant and finally because I'd have loved to get him to some shows this year but been put off my his recent outbursts. I've been advised to put him a chiffney bit but i feel its a little early to start mouthing and have never seen such a young horse in one. It also scares me what damage they can do in the wrong hands. Can anyone suggest an easy and painless solution to my little problem?
