i did post this on the vetinary page but had no help so decided to most it on a bigger forum page :)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

my horse is 15 years old he is an ex racer with a veeeery old tendon injury which hasnt flared up for 8 years since he retired thanks to his injury. i rode him the other day and he was being silly so i put him back into the field and he galloped around like an idiot (typical thoroughbred) then brought him back in and rode again and the girls on the yard said he looked lame in his bad leg (right fore)..... that was 5 days ago now with no heat or swelling..he has however got some heat in his hoof and is only lame in trot on solid ground hes fine on soft and the farrier couldnt find an absess when i called him out after 3 days of him being lame..he has had half a bute in morning and night feed and seems comfortable...

any suggestions? if he doesnt get better by the weekend the vet is coming out and leahurst are expensive :(

Are the feet very hot? Is there a digital pulse in that foot? Is he rocking back as if taking the weight off his feet or laying down? Did the vet hoof test? I would recommend getting the vet out to look at him again.

he seems absolutely fine in himself theres no rocking movement and he doesnt look uncomfortable and isnt limping other than in trot on the solid surface. the hoof is considerably hotter than the other one so i hosed it before i put him to bed but walking up the stone path to the yard from his field he puts his ears back which he has never done before and im not sure if this is because there is horses looking over the fence either side of the path or he is uncomfortable in the walk but not showing any signs. the vet will be coming out either tomorrow or friday morning depending on how early they can come for him

Werid question but where is the heat in his hoof, my lami got it last year and it was acute no heat or pulses slightly lame but tuen went sound for 24 hours then couldnt walk, he came sound and back ridint until last nov when ue went lame on right fore, the heat on his hoof started half way up and ended middle of his pasten bone. We thought hos lami was back again but he was negative to the hoof tests by both farrrier and vet so now we think it's ring bone. He is lame on a 5 meter circle in trot on hard ground and last year was short on a straight line, gave him a few months rest and am now slowly bringing back into work and he is sound.

So it could be arthritic changes.

Xx

thanks for all the help :)

the heat is basically in his entire foot i put my hand on it today when he came in just to check and i felt how hot it was so as i said i hosed it off and put him to bed with a very thick bed incase he walks around in the night (over protective mummy) hes had a full day of rest today i didnt even trot him up and he had half a bute in his morning feed, i'll trot him up tomorrow morning before calling the vet out but i'll be so annoyed if i spend £50 on call out fees just to be told to put him on bute which iv done already
