Alfie - 20mnth border collie

Has been a delight to own and train, moved house with us, house trained himself bla bla

Went on holiday a few weeks ago and left him at in laws....... once again was a star, spoilt to death, run of the house at night etc, they loved him

Comes home........ pees on carpet in lounge (put this down to fireworks) then chews entire door frame of utility room over night. Before holiday was quite happy in there over night.

Put it down to needing a wee, so put him back in then today, he chews it again and couges teeth marks in the wall like he wants to get out and there's a trickle of pee in the corner, this was only after 3hrs in though.

He has always been fine when left alone, doesn't really bark or fuss it's all happened since we've been away and he went to inlaws.

He's not a fussy attention seeking dog but does like to lye at your feet etc.....

Does anyone have any ideas as it's not puppy like behaviour, more like stress......... if so what can i do??? Have even considered him having a urinary infection

Ideas please or it's crate time

thanks

Tantrum I would say probably wants the good life all the time and is telling you he wants the run of the house! You need to do the pack leader bit and put him back in his place, combined with LOADS of exercise before you shut him in, perhaps consider kennels next time you go away! Collies are very intelligent and have a lot of energy it doesnt take long to spoil them and for them to get a taste for the good life and with a brain they know just how to make their point!

My first thoughts would de that the inlaws have changed his normal routine....poss spent more time with him and allowed him to get away with behaviour he is not usually used to getting away with...I would revert back to basics and introduce a crate.
When we rehome we ask the adoptees to keep to the same routine and introduce a new one if needed very gradually....as not to stress or distrupt normal routine....the fireworks could aslo as u mentioned could have had a knock on effect...its not uncommon for distruptive behaviour to come about after bad assosiation/fear.
I would get back to normal routine, get a crate and maybe a dap diffuser to help the situation whilst u are in the process.
