My terrier is currently in season so has had to stay at home while I'm at work cos the dog minder wont take her. to keep her occupied during the day she's had access to the garden and a variety of toys, kongs, bones etc. This morning she is not right. She's straining to go for a poo and has been sick twice. I took her for a walk but she just kept lying down and I had to carry her. Got her home and went upstairs to change and when I came back down she'd managed to squeeze out a bit of poo on the lounge carpet. The poo was streaked with blood. Since then she's seemed a little bit brighter. So, do I take her to the vet immediately or just keep an eye on her. I've skivved off work so will be with her all day. Is there anything I could give her?

NB. All the toys etc are accounted for and it must be the bone that causing anything.

If she is being sick it sounds as if she has a blockage rather than just constipated from the bone so yes I would take her to the vet for a quick check over, particularly as you say she is quiet and not happy.
Not related to this but you say she has access to the garden whilst you aren't there, I would be very careful because a determined dog will get through a nigh impenetrable fence to get to a bitch in season.

For gods sake do you have to ask....?

For your information, within half an hour of my post the dog had been to the toilet with no problems, was bouncing round the garden playing chase with the other dogs and has eaten the food my little boy has dropped without bringing it back up. So, yes, I did have to ask.
Did YOU need to be so nasty .....?

Thanks to Amy May and Murphys Minder for their more helpful comments. It looks like whatever it was, it is now ok although I will be keeping a close eye on her.

With regards to other dogs getting to her while she is in season, we have an eight foot wall round the garden and are in an isolated area so I think she's as safe as she possibly could be.

Ditto this ^^^. Some bitches do get quite out of sorts when in season which may also have been a factor, if you have no plans to breed from her might be worth considering having her spayed then she would be able to keep going to the dog minder all year.

Thanks for the tip. She's deffo being speyed. She was a stray and we dont know her history so had to wait and see when/if she came into season first.

Yes a friend thought that also until he found the neighbouring farmer's collie tied to his patterdale bitch after scaling the 9 ft high solid wood privacy fence!

If there is ANY worry that your dog has a blockage I cant believe you wouldn't go straight to the vet.

Chloe swallowed a chew, seemed fine but we werent certain so took to the vet.

Two hours later she was having emergency surgery, any longer and she'd have died.

Worth the risk?!

Personally, I am with cedars, but only because the actual question was "do i CALL the vet" YES for decent trained advice over the phone from a vet, rather than an internet forum.

Glad she is on the emnd.
