to cut a long story short, me and few people at my stable yard have noticed that 3 of the horses have got very long hoofs which are sometimes making the poor horses walk unsteadily, to make matters worse the horse with the worst feet is very old (26) and cant walk very well anyway. The other day we all confronted the owner about the horses she was adament that the blacksmith had been a few week ago, when we wouldnt believe her she got very nasty with us all and told us to keep our noses out. i really want to phone the rspca but i am worried what she will do if she finds out it was me who got intouch. PLEASE HELP

they are very long but they are not at the point of curling yet. they are making the horses walk unsteadily. In my opinion i dont think they have had them trimmed this year.

If you want an honest opinion,I would not get involved. Horses all differ, some need trimming every 6-8 weeks, some only once, twice a year. Believe it or not,a friend of mine owns a pony stud, and one of her mares has not been trimmed for 5 years, the hooves just naturally balance themeselves out.

You really would only cause a row with this woman, and unless the horses are really suffering with it then don't get involved.
Sorry if thats blunt!

he didnt know anything about it until yesterday plus he never really appears at the yard has he is retired. he promised to talk to the women who owns the horse but she normally goes to the yard early morning ( 6ish) or really late at night (can be after 10).

Hi
To be honest I think it is the yo that should get involved and he really should talk to the woman and if that makes no difference then he should ring the rspca as at the end of the day I believe that yo's have a certain level of responsibility when it comes to liveries neglecting their horses. I don't own a yard but i do run one and although majority are DIY liveries i woulod still intervene if i thought it necessary as the horses' welfare should always come first!!
Hope that helps?!?:)

i totally agree with you but the yo just cant be arsed all he's interested in is getting the livery money off us.
i just feel really sorry for the horses.

I totally know how you feel the guy that owns the yard i run is exactly the same even though he owns two pony youngsters!!
But yeah you should def keep on his back about this!!:)

The easiest way to manage your YO is point out how bad it would be for future customers if his yard has the reputatation of having the RSPCA called out to intervene with horse welfare! If he still does nothing, then call IPLH or WFW.
