I have been advised to use a double bridle in ridden classes....I have used a pelham with double reins on our cob, but this is for my ArabX - he is very flighty, bit of show-off but I normally hack and school in a loose ring snaffle with a revolver because he is very sensitive in his mouth, which is quite small/shallow....

I have never used a 'proper' double bridle before...what bits am I supposed to use? Im a bit concerned that there looks to be a lot of metalwork for just one mouth!!! Especially when my lad is used to such a simple bit....anyone any advice please? Cheers

I agree, if he doesn't need it don't use it. If he has a very small mouth, try a bradoon as this helped my mare who has a tiny little mouth. (Just on its own I mean) She seemed a lot more comfortable and fought less =)

Thanks peeps, put my mind a rest - I didn't really want to change anything as he's fine as he is....

I was advised by a judge to go in a double...but bear in mind this is local level only, I think the judges sometimes just get a bit up themselves...(hope none of them are reading this, thats me way down the line-up!!)

There are no rules that state you have to use a double bridle. For Novice classes, a snaffle is acceptable. For open classes, you should really use two reins, try a jointed pelham.

put it on him for show but use only the bradoon..having the weymouth rein with only slight contact.
