Flin had an operation on his stifles for suspected OCD in November 08. The joints were clear and all he had was soft tissue inflammation, thankfully.
He followed the operation with 5 weeks complete box rest and IRAP injections into the stifle joints on a weekly basis for 3 weeks. He was then allowed into a small paddock and then after 4 weeks back into the big field with all the other horses on the yard. He hasn't done any work since he has been allowed out into the field, which was in 2nd week of December. He hasn't been ridden since end September 2008 when the problems first started.
Vet has just been to see him and in walk he looks fine, he is walking straight and tracking up nicely, (prev walked like a wonkey donkey!) but on his transition into trot he is not following through on his left hind and drops the hip and reluctant for a stride or so. This then corrects once he has got into trot fully and he looks fine again once into trot.
What are everyones experiences when bringing them back into work after an operation and recovery? Could this poor transition be due to lack of work, post operative recovery, or lazyness as he is very laid back! The vet has said to start riding him out at walk and see how he goes as she doesn't think it is pain that is causing the poor transition. I have phoned his physio to book her to come to see him now that he can start work again.
Sorry for long post just quite despondent that he is still not 100% after all he has been through when all he had was soft tissue damage in the joints.
Any help, advice or other peoples experiences would be appreciated.
