my grey came back from a ride earlier & he has a sore little rub patch underneath his ergot, he wears le mieux snug boots which has clearly rubbed his one foot. I cleaned it & put sudacrem on it as it was tender for him, best options for riding as they will keep rubbing until it’s healed? he has to wear protection on his legs as he is clumsy and can stand on himself.

Could you try a piece of moleskin that you get for inside walking boots, I've not used it for years but i seem to remember it stuck really well to the inside of my boots (I think thats how you are supposed to use it?) and didnt move, they stopped rubbing and made a big difference.

I would use a different pair of boots while it heals and look at the fit carefully they may just be a bit wrong for him or only suitable for certain times, I had a thin skinned grey that went through loads of boots trying to find ones that didn't rub, some were ok for flatwork but rubbed if he jumped in them, others were no good for a long fast hack so we tended to alternate and did as much as possible without boots, they tend to become more careful as they become more established generally.
