Sorry I put this on the stable care bit but nobody replied and I have no idea about these things so thought I would try again here!

Walking across my fields today i have noticed a few large white flat mushrooms sprouting up due to the wet weather i guess. We've never had them before so i don't know if they are harmless or whether i should go back out in the rain to remove them all. I'm really hoping its the first option as i suspect that a new lot may have sprouted by morning! Any advice much appreciated!

Pick them and eat them!!! they taste lovely, horses tend to ignore them or just nose at them and bust them, used to be a race in the morning to see if we could get them before horses,

I wouldn't recommend eating them if you don't know exactly what type of mushroom they are... horses won't eat them though.

Yes, I would err on the side of caution - even with a book about fungi and mushrooms it is difficult to tell the edible from the nasties!

TBH the cotton wool brigade are right though I've have had some of mine with bacon already. They are mushrooms and fine but if in doubt don't eat them the foxes will though as will slugs. Though if you find a massive one the size of a rugby ball that is a puff ball and is also fine to eat. The general rule is if it's coloured don't touch it. You could always feed them to your familt first just to make sure they're ok for you to eat
