I have finally scraped up a little bit of money to buy a trailer and now the hunt begins. I am looking for something safe and sound. OH is handy but refuses to get involved with brakes so these at least must work and no welding to do either.

I really don't have much money, comfortably under £1000 would really be best. Besides ebay where is the best place to look?

I picked one up locally through ebay for about £350 last year. It's perfectly functional and safe and sound but does not have front unload. In my youth very few trailers had front unload so it doesn't bother me.

When I was a kid we had a sheep trailer for the ponies! For years. And we went to county shows in it  Anything over 14hh might find a sheep trailer a bit of a squeeze though.....

Find some where that does horse lorry plating they usually know a few horsey people who are looking to sell or places that fix trailers etc. I found mines in a scrap yard! Needed brakes and a new floor (wiring was fine but had it redone) but only cost me £30!

I remember not having front unload as a kid too. BH is probably too retarded to back off a trailer but I imagine Nitty would manage :)

They could crouch down right? :D

I have my B+E. I passed my test about 18 months ago now but have only just managed to get to a point where I might be able to buy! I spent all my savings on lessons, as you do!

marmalade76, what do you have? I think you might be a very long way from me judging by your location! New floor wouldn't be the end of the world, would have to check OH would be happy to do it for me though. He said once he'd changed job and had more time he'd be a bit more willing to do a fixer upper but he can be a grumpy old sod!

I sold my last Rice 2 x 16.2 Front unload, had new brakes, tow hitch, floor and wiring. Very sound working trailer and the newer style not the old one.

I got £1,000 and was pleased, so I dont think you will have any trouble finding one with no work to do.

Good that you have a B+E licence as that makes things much easier

What vehicle will you be using for towing?
GVW = ??? kgs
Towing capacity = ??? kgs
GTW if listed = ??? kgs

What weight will you need to carry in the trailer?

ROG,

I'll be borrowing a friends Hyundai Terracan oon a 07 plate, so should be reasonably comfortable in terms of weight at the moment. However, I was thinking of trying to buy something reasonably lightweight in case I end up buying something a bit smaller when I buy my own 4x4.

On my list of desirables at the moment are the Rice Europa and some of the Sinclairs (typical that m76 would come and waft one under my nose adding to my desire to do it right now!)

Obviously I'd like a shiny new Ifor or something but I think that might be for the future rather than now!

Something like a good Bahill trailer. I think there's two on eBay just now. Wong cost the earth as they're quite old(80s). Just make sure you get one with a good floor and brakes done. I got mine with everything except brakes. Put it in for a service and got alot done to it, parts were a little difficult to find given it being so old, but total came to £600 inc vat.

Mine was an ebay jobby. Fully refurbed about 4 years ago and has a 10 year service history. Was under £1000 and not to far away. Theres some right sheds on there that you have to sift through to find a good one.

My plan is/was for the OH to fix this up for me, but I am still waiting  I have another that is usable, but it's a treble and very heavy and I thought with this one I would use less fuel towing it.

Sorry the pics are a bit pants, OH took them 'cause he's threatening to put it on Ebay

I have a double Rice for sale, cheap as it needs some of the planks on the rear ramp replacing and would benefit from a wash and paint. This is the extra height version, 7'6'' internal height I think. Im based in South Bucks, not sure where you are... PM if of interest
