Help!! First ever fun ride sunday percy hunt

Hi,

Never been to a fun ride in my life could anyone give me any idea of the format etc? Cant get hold of the woman organising it for love nor money! going on my new pony and dont think shes been before either. Im not afraid to admit I am pooing it!!

Ah rubbish ! still go

the ones I have been on are turn up park tack up and go there will be optional fences and you can go at your own pace - I tend to go at my horses own pace though :-)

thankyou tempted to still go but dont want to go alone in case of emergency etc etc eeek!! was looking forward to it though as much as I was nervous!
 
go on your own and then see if theres anyone there you can tag along with, these rides have gotten so popular now you wouldn't completely on your own anyway, would be able to see people in front/behind you! (:
 
I done this a good few year back was fab, dont worry lots of people about incase of emergency, dont live in the area anymore or i'd have came wih you v jealous
 
ok you lot have practically persuaded me!! I have no idea if my new mare has ever been anywhere like it before and at the moment I have no fields to ride in so havnt tried her properly in open spaces etc im guessing the fun ride is all canter etc?

no not at all, you can do what ever pace you want (it will just take you longer :P) there suppose to FUN so just do what you want to do!
 
Sounds like she might be a little excited to get her hoofs on grass at first but just go with it.

You can walk round if you like ! .... she might have other ideas though lol

Having done the Percy ride I would suggest going later on if you are not sure about your horse. It can get very busy - often attracting 200-300 horses. It is a fast route all being on grass and with 30 plus jumps which are purely optional.

You will certainly not be on your own for long it is so busy usually. It is lovely - 100% off road.

I am not trying to put you off - have fun!
 
Can you manage two reins? Would a bit upgrade be an option? I always like to hunt any horse in a pelham, to be sure I have brakes if it does do anything stupid, but a Cheltenham gag is a good option too, if you can borrow one to try.

If you don't know how she's going to be, it's probably best to wear a body protector too.
 
Hi my advice would be to go with someone with a steady horse if you have not been on a fun ride with this horse before.

They are great fun, if you don't have a friend who can come with you then I'd keep trying to get hold of the ride organiser as they may be able to put you in touch with someone who you could ride with.

If you go remember to walk to start with and that your horse will probably be much stronger and adrelaline charged! I always walk the first mile, regardless of whether my horse agrees! Then mix the paces as dictated by the ground and conditions etc.

Remember your mobile, a drink (one that you can open one handed and put back in the holder one handed) and depending on how they mark the course, a map holder could be useful!

Hey I'm going to it as well hopefully. Also first ride for me and am ridicuously excited about it. We did ok at the xc training on Saturday so hopefully will survive.

I'm dependent on a lift so not sure about what time we will get there but I can pm you my number if you like.
 
Chancing - Did you go in the end?
We went this morning and it was fab. My will never go in front, nappy, very lazy horse turned in to a revved up hunter! I've never cantered so much, he came through the last field in beautiful half pass canter :eek: he normally pretends to be exhausted just leaving the yard, i haven't reached speeds like that for longer than I can mention. Throughly enjoyed it and can't wait till the next one.
Was busy but people were extremley well mannnered about passing.
