As title. How tight, low and what size for a 12hh pony?

Is it OK to turn out with hedges or should I tape off them. Bit concerned about getting caught up.

Typed in huge hurry, hope you understand post.

I would say pony sized for a 12hh pony. When you adjust it it should hang about 1" from your pony's muzzle, if you put it on too loose they'll be able to pull it off.

I have turned out in a field with a hedge and never had a problem with it getting caught.

As dwi says, I've had to customise mine as he kept getting it off ! we seem to have it sussed now touch wood.

I bought a greenguard muzzle which was rubbish, but used the bits from the headcollar thats designed for it, eg the centre strap thing and the xtra throat lash to customize the shires one he's got !

You need to adjust it so the cheet pieces a quite long so the under throat bit comes as high as possible ob not enough to choke ha ha

Doesn't it have breakaway velcro points on it? We put their ordinary leather headcollars on over the top if they get them off - usually a good roll removes it - unintentionally. We cut the bottom across web to make nostril holes in the Shires type ones with the circular hole in the bottom, but as with any other man-made product they wear, I wouldn't leave them out while I disappeared off for the day in one.

We put fleecy wraps over the 'cheek pieces' and watch for muzzle, lips and chin rubs in the early days. We do ever-lengthening periods of time out of muzzled grazing to let the skin become accustomed to them. Might not need them this year because of these two

When first fitted just leave it on supervised for a short time. Then gradually build up the time it is fitted and make sure you know the pony can drink- you may need to help.

Not saying you will, but so many people have trouble because they put it on then leave it for the first time all day and thn wonder why the pony gets it off or becomes distressed!
