so we're all concerned, and i hope it isnt. it came by form of colic.

it may seem a bit selfish but my horse grazes with this one other and he has had 2 colic attacks before, i read that there is a higher risk of him maybe getting it as they share a field but because he's had colic does that make the risk even higher. should i be worried, im sick out of worry atm!

my friends horse had grass sickness ended up being pts, symptons are v similar to colic. its not nice but if there is any hope get the horse to an equine hospital asap. if you are really worried then move your horse somewhere else. they do say that some horses on same pasture would not get it but the people that lost horse have never put another horse on the same grazing. good luck.

A pony on my yard was pts due to grass sickness a couple of years ago. Around ten other ponies grazed with this one and none of them were affected. I have heard that it is related to the field however we saw no evidence of this. What did the vet say caused your horses colic in the past?

I would have a look at the GS website as it has some really useful info on it. I lost Higgs to this 18mths ago, initially impacted colic, rushed to leahurst, surgery ok, but diagnosed GS

. Try to avoid getting your horse stressed, we feed hay in the field right through to July as May is one of the peak months for GS. they reckon that some horses are more susceptible to GS which is why one on a field will get it and others never do.

How horrible for your friend, her horse and for you. I'ts natural to be worried, you're not beig selfish, though it does sound as if your horse should be ok.
I also lost a horse to grass sickness many years ago, it's distressingly common isn't it...
