Help from racing/Point to Point bods please!

The weight will be set at 12st, a bit more if your horse has run recently, a bit less if a mare.
The qualification crap is the trickiest bit, so if you know all that just work everything else out as you go along.
Your kit (hat/bp/saddle) needs to be right, there will be valets on the day to help you make sure of this.
Get someone who is experienced in saddling up racehorses to help you tack up and get the horse into the paddock with plenty of time to spare.

I believe rules for riding in your own hunt race are different from riding generally in p2p but I may be wrong - as with all things these days, H&S is paramount

The Jockey Club produces a book 'Regulations for Point to Point Steeplechases' which has all the rules etc. Mind you it cost £6.50 back in 1996. There is also a book called 'Riding in a Point to Point' by Anne Holland published by J A Allen which may be useful. Good luck.

I am going to get a friend or 2 to help in the paddock, was just wondering if there was anything bizarre that I might not know about, we are having our first gallop in the racing saddle on Saturday

Very early! You don't need to think about roadwork for a couple more months depending on when the your hunt run their p2p.

If you don't make the weight you can be +
