Hi there,

I posted on here last year about my warmblood dressage gelding who had started bucking, and when i say becking i mea like a rodeo horse, only when you first mounted and get both feet in the stirrups.

Ok so had numerous people giving various suggestions but ended up getting a very well respected osteopath out to him, he discovered a very old injury to his back probably about 6/7 years old. Off side loin area just behind saddle. I also discovered at this time that he had lost a lot of muscle behind his shoulders ad in the sore loin area. So we underwent lots of treatment including manipulation and intensive rehab including pessoa and long reining up and down hills which i duly undertook. This improved him greatly, his muscle wastage disappeared, we brought him back into riddin work and he was better than i've ever known him he was consistently winning at elem and working med/adv med, qualified for the winter regionals with ease.

Anyway over the last couple of minths i haven't been able to get as much work into him as i would like due to how cold it's been and work commitments. He started about 5 weeks ago napping. i mean literally we could be trotting round quite happily and he would just slam the anchor on and start backing up threatening to rear, i rode him forwards and praised him loads when her went forwards. THis seemd to be worse on the right rein and it has got a lot worse to the point where i took him to a little unaff comp two weeks ago and he actually reared, spun into a fence, got his feet stuck in the fence and fell over on me. Luckily i was ok and he just lost a shoe. I called the osteopath out again and he has said he has lost muscle mass and was sore on the off side loin area again. Hardly surprising given that he fell on that side, he also has some tightness in his left poll.

Osteopath advised lots of stretching work to build him up again then carry on as per usual. I went to get on him for a pootle the other night, he walked 7 strides then said no, by no i meant he stopped, there was no bucking or napping but he was tense it was very subtle but i knew he wasn't happy, so i got off and lunged him instead.

I ould just like opinions please as my intital plan now is to pessoa and long reing for 2/3 weeks again to hopefully make him more comfortable before i attempt getting back on, what do you think??

Very big thank you to those who have read this and choccy cup cakes and tea for all!
