Hi folks, just a wee query, my mare has just come into season and today I caught my Haffy gelding firstly sniffing a new pile she had just laid, then to my horror, he took a large amount of it into his mouth and started to suck the moisture out, followed by actually eating it, then swallowing! Yum! Then he went back for more - at this point I removed it. They have a new salt lick in the field and plenty of grass so why would he do this? Could it hurt him in any way? Is it just because she's in season do you think? Any comments very gladly received!
