I really really struggle with the tensioning on my progress clippers! I've read people have also had this but no one gives advice or tips to solve it :( I just can't get the tension right at all! My friend used them and said they were fab but I can't do it! There serviced and new blades by way its defiantly just me!

I tighten them right up then turn half a turn. So thumb at 12 o'clock turn anticlock wise to 6 o'clock. They need to be tighter than other clippers. Failing that check your blades have been put back the right way. Ours came back from service the wrong way round!

I have had mine for about 5 years and really rate them. Before I start clipping I loosen the tension right off, then as soon as I feel some resistance I continue tightening for another full turn. When I begin to clip I will increase tension if they are not clipping well, usually they need another half a turn.

Thank you guys! I will try both ways tomorrow!
The blades and everything are all in correctly, they just won't cut. All they do is "fluff" the coat. And I've tried many different coats! So annoying when I know they clip so bloody well but for me I've lost that tension and can not get back!!!
Will update later! Thanks again! Xx

I had the same problem to the point I gave up and sold them. I also know numerous others that swear by them but I just couldn't get them to work!

I sent them back to the retailer I bought them from, had them regularly serviced, tried numerous blades in them. I would tension as per instructions and then try to clip, nothing. Would tighten a little more then try to clip, nothing. would continue like this until I couldn't tighten anymore and they still wouldn't clip!! Think i was spolit with my Listers - easiest things to tension but bought the Heiniger's as Listers aren't heavy duty enough - shame i couldn't get the flipping things to tension!

Think I manged 2 complete clips with them across 2 winters.

Normally with the Progress, I would suggest fit the blades and spray with oil. Then turn them on and wind the tension down until you feel it hit resistance. At this point you need to learn the "feel" of the tension. Listen carefully as you wind down, when you feel the tension start to stiffen, take the tension down a quarter to one half turn. You should hear the noise from the blades change slightly. Maybe a slight drumming sound. It is at this point that they should clip. It is easier if perhaps you know how the blades are structured. All big clipper blades are ground "Hollow" or "concave" from new, so when your blades are fitted and under no tension, only the outer edges are touching. As you wind the tension down, the centre of the blades is brought together and at just the point when they touch all the way across the teeth, that should be the point at which they clip. If they clip on the outside edges, this can mean the blades are over concave. I personally see a lot of Heiniger machines and they very rarely give cutting problems.
