Help Help!! Bullnosed Hooves 2 *PHOTOS* and newly barefoot front

So... Today I have thoroughly scrubbed his feet and cleaned them with salt and then purple sprayed. Them. When I get him in later do you think it's worth dry polticing all his feet tonight to dry them out?

That is really interesting Cpt..... would that be because of him scrunching (for want of a better word in my befuddled brain!) up and holding himself, therefore not landing heal first? x
I like "srunching up". :D I suppose any persistent discomfort/pain that makes a horse scrunch up, camp under etc. will push/rock weight too far back onto hind hooves, sort of tipping the balance and bull nosing due to - P bone is one consequence? Just musing...

Hi could I just mention that my horse seemed to breeze the transition to barefoot with the help of wraps on his fronts for the first 8wks and then at about 11 weeks in became sore and short in front. If your shoes came of in Sept, it could be a similar timescale - I have heard that the foot wakes up at about this time which certainly seemed the case with mine, some soreness at this point can happen. Also don't forget there is a huge change to muscles, ligaments and the horses general way of moving, like constantly wearing high heels and then being asked to wear flat's. I would consider getting a physio type to check him over for any soreness as this can have an impact and also if you can get a decent equine podiatrist to make sure the foot is properly balanced and see if they think some wraps will help you move forward. They are good at providing some protection from the surfaces whilst still allowing the foot to function as properly barefoot, if you go down this route just to let you know that you shouldn't use them on roads and be careful on slippery surfaces as they lack grip

My horse has had two incidents of slight bullnosing to one or both hinds and on each occasion has blown abscesses shortly afterwards. I don't know if its related at all or if its jsut one of many possible reasons for the bullnosed effect. But its something I'm watching with mine now to see if it occurs again - obviously I still need to tweak the diet further to fix this!
