Can anyone please help me?? Many thanks in advance for reading this and for all your help and advice. I have a 7 year old dutch warmblood dressage horse who I have owned since the age of 3. We have always had a problem with whatever saddle we have used, they all sit to the right on him. Now I have ridden other horses and it doesnt happen so it has to be him. Recently I have had 4 saddle fitters out who in the end have came to the conclusion to stick with the saddle that I have and do not touch the flocking. The problem is, even if you put a brand new saddle on him and girth it up and walk him a couple of strides, it straight away sits to the right. He is very evenly muscled and has had a kissing spine op (the problem was the same prior to the op as well as still existing) so definately has no physical problem apart from having one shoulder slightly bigger that the other. It makes me collapse my left hip when i ride trying to sit straight on him and is very uncomfortable. Any ideas greatly appreciated, many thanks
 
Sounds like a candidate for a WOW saddle with Flair, so the saddle is more evenly distributed..or if that is a bit extreme, maybe the Korrector numnahs, which have a number of air pockets you can inflate/deflate to suit unevenness
 
I have tried a flair saddle but he cannot stand the feel of it, he just broncs. Such a problem these horses hey?? Thanks
 
Whereabouts are you? Have you had Kay Humphries look at the saddle? Cos she is brill at fitting saddles to horses that have had the kissing spine op-she has just altered my saddle for Owen so that there is a kind of hole in the middle of the stuffing and then he has a numah with a hole around the site that he was operated on. which takes the pressure of the operation site it really does seem so much better on him...and he is straighter now because actually like yours Owen was making me drop one hip, although not as drastically as you describe
Also is he completly straight when you ride him or is there a slight head tilt or stiffness on one rein?
Just asking because I have similar symptons as you do with Owen, although not as drastic...

i would say that he is preety straight when I ride, can do half pass on both reins and flying changes although I suppose that he does have a slighly stiffer side but dont they all including us?? Whos that lady and where is she from? My boy is not in any pain from the saddle as I regularly massage him and get my physio out to massage him. To be honest you wouldnt know that he had had the op. How is Owen doing??
 
Can echo Kay Humphries/Swain saddles, they really are the best and Kay knows her stuff...

Are you putting the saddle too far forward do you think, my chap has big shoulders and I have to put his saddle quite a way back behind them, if I don't his will slip?

You don't have elastic on your girth do you?
 
No I am definately not putting the saddle to far forwards and i dont have an elasticated girth. The other problem is that i really couldnt put it any further back as he has a very short back and it would be sitting on his loins. Thanks

My mare is due to have her saddle checked and i would prefer someone who has been recommended.

He is fine honest, im sure it is nothing to do with his op. Please dont be concerned. He is one of two at our yard that has had the op and they were both successful. Youll be fine!!
