Just realised i sent my horses passport off as i moved house and it still hasn't arrived back from the passport office,do you def need it when they do a 5* vetting? have rang office and they said they can't promise it will be with me time, eeekkk! what should i do?

Email the PIO and get them to confirm the details in the passport then you can print it off for the vet if it's asked for, which it may well be

I think you should defer the vetting until another time. If the purchasers are keen they should be happy to wait. I am sure the vet doing the vetting will want to see the passport to check proof of ownership if nothing else.

If you have the number of the prospective purchasers vets why don't you ring them and ask them. I take it the purchasers aren't using your vets?

The vet won't mind but he or she will be unable to comment on age (apart from dentistry estimate age), microchip matches or that the horse matches the passport, he also can't comment on vaccination status. The vetting can still go ahead but it will be up to your buyers if they want it to. I would contact the buyers and explain because if they do want the passport they will need to cancel the vetting asap!

When I booked a vetting I had a big shpeel read out to me and one of the things on it said that the passport had to be there..... period.

Maybe call the vets doing the vetting, explain the problem, ask if the POI copied and faxed the passport to you would that be enough? Otherwise you'll hav to defer it....

I'd double check with the vets that will be adequate.... The buyer won't be happy if he refuses to proceed that they will have already had to pay for the vet coming out etc....

Good about the faxing. Do contact your buyer asap though. even if it is over-kill at least they will know you are diligent!
