My horse has been fine, he is a little green but his schooling and jumping was coming on very well... then he got a leg infection and was off work about 10 days, he was brought back into work and was fine to begin with but now will not canter on the right rein properly...., he will happily canter on that rein on the wrong lead but if you try and make him canter on the correct lead he gets very stressed, throws his head around and just trots faster and faster -- ive got the back man coming today, i am not going to ride him again until i get my saddle checked and i am getting his teeth checked next week, so until then what shall i do with him ??? lunge him or just turn him out or leave him in the stable ?????? i feel very upset as he was coming on so nicely before the leg infection

could the infection be back? also infection damages the tissue so the muscle may not be developing as much where the infection was and so he feels insecure using his legs correctly?
also could it be behaviour? my boy had a slip in the menage, knocked his confidence and then flat out refused to canter on one rein. lunging him might help him gain confidence with his balance on each rein, if he's not lame in any other way and if he still does it on the lunge when in a headcollar, his back if fine and theres no saddle on then its probably just behaviour and will come right with lots of time and practice :)

hiya, he was fine to lunge on both reins before the infection, but now on the right rein he will still sometimes strike off on the wrong lead, i have been doing lots of lunge work lately and i thought i had cracked it last night, he was striking off on the correct lead nearly everytime, so i rode him and he was alful, so i have now decided to do nothing with him at all till the vet has been
