my horse severed her tendon. Healing has been going great until we took off the bandage. She won't leave the wound alone and has been itching it and has itched away a bunch of the granualtion. How do I keep her from doing this and still let air get to the wound to help it heal? Thanks

Use a cradle or a rug bib or even a plastic bucket or flowerpot with the bottom cut out so she can't reach it.. Just make sure there is plenty of air able to circulate in and around the deterrent. If you decide on a cradle, I have one you can borrow for the postage if you want.

Part of my problem with her is that she doesn't like stuff on her face. can't tell you how many fly masks I have gone through. So am trying to figure out how to lightly wrap her leg, she doesn't bother the bangage just the wound when it is not covered, but yet still let air get to it so it can heal?

I plan to try that but she is a bit of a Diva, also very smart and we (my vet, my friend (person who is really taking care of her daily) and my self) that thoses kinds of restraints most likely aren't going to work with her but might be the only alternative. So trying to see if someone else has had this issue and found a solution

A horse at my yard has been on box rest for 5 months after a similar injury. Now that her bandage has come off she started to chew at her wound so her owners have to cross tie her at the stable door with a haynet hung up outside for her to eat. Not ideal but the wound is now healing properly.

Thanks,

right now the bandage is back on and it is again healing. Perhaps we might try that. Though hay only entertains her for a while. Thanks
